vesterbro.
today i took a bicycle ride to vesterbro via the bryggebroen over the south harbor and through the emerging neighbourhoods thereabout. while the the main thrust of my walk/ride was in vesterbro proper, the emerging post-industrial harbour ‘hoods were also interesting.
the building at the foot of the bridge (below) is known as the gemini residence. completed in 2005, these former seed silos...

a few days ago we rode our bicycles out to here.
the lifeless spaces were a jarring juxtaposition.

yesterday we climbed the corkscrew spire of vor frelsers kirke, or, the church of our saviour, in christianshavn.
as a visitor, overlooking a city upon arrival - and also as a (more) permanent resident, periodically using such a place to remove oneself from the city in order to overlook/understand/evaluate/ - is integral.
i went for a walk/wander the other day and ended up at strøget, the network of pedestrian streets in the centre of copenhagen.
this network is the result of an eventual accretion of reclaimed spaces. the pedestrian network in copenhagen has expanded from ~15,000m2 to ~100,000m2 over the last few decades (not to mention every single street is ‘complete’).
